The Beams Are Coming
The Beams Are Coming
There are some things you design because they sound funny.
Then there are some things you design because you eventually need to know whether the ridiculous thing you created in your head actually works as a shirt.
Two of those experiments are currently on their way to First Logistics Yard.
The Laser Beam Hawaiian Shirt and the Halloween vs. Christmas Hawaiian Shirt have officially been ordered.
According to the shipping estimate, they should be arriving sometime between September 19th and 21st.
And there's a plan for the Halloween vs. Christmas shirt.
I'm wearing it from September through December.
That's four months.
Because seasonal clothing doesn't necessarily have to mean short-lived clothing.
Halloween starts showing up long before October, and Christmas decorations start appearing before Halloween has even finished defending its territory. So why make something that only works for a couple of weeks?
Make something that covers the whole season.
Halloween is on it.
Christmas is on it.
The argument between them is on it.
Technically, I'm never wearing the wrong shirt for the season.
And if you order one, you can do the exact same thing.
That's part of the idea behind this design. Seasonal stuff doesn't have to be something you wear once and then put away. If you design around the transition between seasons, you can actually get months of use out of it.
It also took me a while to get this particular shirt right.
The original design felt like something was missing. The shoulders were a little too bare, and it didn't quite have the look I wanted.
So we added decals and additional details to the shoulders to make it feel more like an actual Forklift Yacht Club uniform.
Unofficially, of course.
There is currently no official FYC uniform department.
There probably shouldn't be.
But the end result is supposed to look like something a member of the Forklift Yacht Club might actually be issued before being sent off to deal with a completely unnecessary seasonal emergency.
The Laser Beam Hawaiian Shirt is a little more straightforward.
It's a forklift.
It has a laser beam.
The beam is important.
Therefore, it belongs on a Hawaiian shirt.
Obviously.
These aren't the first FYC shirts I've ordered. They're the first Hawaiian shirts I've ordered featuring my own designs, which makes getting them in hand a little more interesting.
I've seen these designs on a screen.
I've adjusted them.
I've changed details.
I've stared at them probably far longer than was healthy.
Now we're going to find out what they actually look like on a shirt.
And, more importantly, whether all those little details still work once they're printed on actual fabric.
If they look good in person, we'll have photographic evidence.
If they look completely ridiculous...
Well.
That's also photographic evidence.
Either way, we'll have an answer.
The shipment is currently scheduled for September 19th–21st.
First Logistics Yard is standing by.
Halloween and Christmas are apparently standing by too.
They just haven't agreed on who gets the display space yet.
