🚢 Rusty Deck Sessions — Part 4
When the Ship Started Maintaining the Crew
The Rusty Deck has always been where the Drámatica crew tells stories they probably should not be telling.
This time, the story belongs to someone who was never supposed to tell stories at all.
Dram.
Originally designated as a D.R.A.M. — Drámatica Repurposed Engineering Maintenance Unit, Dram was built for one simple purpose: maintain the ship.
Check systems.
Repair damage.
Keep everything operating.
Simple.
Until it wasn't.
After an unexpected event changed his programming, Dram began seeing the ship differently. Not just as a collection of systems, but as something constantly balancing between “working” and “about to fail.”
That led him through the ship searching for problems others accepted as normal.
A component operating within standards.
A system with acceptable risk.
A repair that could wait.
To the crew, it was fine.
To Dram, it was a probability calculation that had not finished.
But eventually Dram discovered something more complicated than a failing machine.
People.
In “Organic Maintenance Procedure,” Dram approaches Bianca and Tarz with a simple request:
He wants the maintenance procedures for humans.
Because from Dram’s perspective, everything requires maintenance.
Machines.
Ships.
Systems.
So why not the crew?
The problem is that humans do not come with service manuals.
Bianca understands the physical side.
Tarz understands the mental side.
Dram understands neither.
And that might be the first thing Dram has encountered that cannot be repaired with a replacement part.
The latest Rusty Deck Sessions chapter explores what happens when a machine built to fix everything discovers the hardest system to understand is the crew itself.
Sometimes the problem isn't broken.
Sometimes the problem is being alive.
Welcome back to the Rusty Deck.
