The journey has officially begun.

Errand of the Realm (Part 1) follows the opening arc of a so-called “simple favor” that quickly becomes something far less simple, far less controlled, and far more confidently misinterpreted than anyone intended.

What begins in celebration ends in motion.

And what begins in clarity… does not stay that way for long.

Song 1 — The Royal Errand

Victory in Catnatic’s halls sets the stage.
A simple request is made.
A group of heroes agrees immediately.
Steve makes a small correction that will later be regretted by everyone involved.

Song 2 — The Road Already Taken

The journey begins.
The heroes interpret every sign as destiny.
Steve attempts basic clarification.
The world responds by ignoring him.

Song 3 — Things Left Behind

Objects begin accumulating meaning they were never designed to hold.
A dropped bag becomes prophecy.
A lunch becomes symbolism.
Steve becomes the only reliable retrieval system in the party.

Song 4 — The Broken Way Forward

Obstacles appear.
The heroes do not avoid them.
They ritualize them.
A broken bridge becomes a sacred trial.
Steve suggests walking around it. This suggestion is not adopted.

Song 5 — Keeper of What Was Lost

The pattern becomes established.
Everything lost is returned.
Everything returned becomes myth.
Steve is no longer just following the group—he is now the only consistent force keeping reality intact.

The Core Problem (So Far)

At this point in the journey, three things are clear:

- The heroes interpret visual information as prophecy
- Steve interprets visual information as instructions
- Neither group is successfully communicating with the other

And yet, the journey continues.

A Note From Production

We are aware that some listeners have begun to suspect:

- that nothing is accidental
- that every “mistake” is actually meaningful
- and that Steve might, unintentionally, be the only qualified person in the entire expedition

We can neither confirm nor deny this.

What Comes Next

Part 2 will follow the continuation of the journey toward Steve’s home in the hills, where:

- expectations become increasingly incorrect
- infrastructure becomes increasingly “ritualized”
- and the definition of “simple errand” continues to degrade

The heroes remain confident.

Steve remains concerned.

And the road remains entirely unconvinced this was ever supposed to be simple.
