My Most Useful Warehouse Tool Isn't Fancy
My Most Useful Warehouse Tool Isn't Fancy
Most people see a locking carabiner and think "key holder."
Or Forklift key retainer.
That's what mine started as.
After enough trailer unloads, though, it picked up another job.
When it's time to break a plastic trailer seal, I hook the carabiner through the seal and give it a firm pull. The seal usually snaps without me having to fight it with my fingers.
A couple of safety notes from experience:
- Wear gloves whenever possible.
- Keep your face and body out of the line of pull.
- Be ready for your hand to move suddenly when the seal breaks.
- Watch your knuckles around trailer hardware and door latches.
- Broken plastic can leave sharp edges, so handle the pieces carefully.
It's a simple tool, but it's one of those things I use almost every shift. It holds my keys, clips to my belt, and makes trailer seals a little less annoying.
Sometimes the best warehouse tools are the ones nobody thinks twice about.
