The Dramatica Box Anomaly Report: Chapter 2: The Safety Chamber

 Chapter 2: The Safety Chamber

The Dramática’s engineering wing had never been quieter. Even the Quantum Catnip Core seemed to hum more cautiously, as if it knew the crew was about to make a terrible discovery.Admiral Tarz walked with purpose, his uniform catching the green reactor light in sharp angles. Behind him trailed the five crew cats, each wearing the expression of someone who had witnessed Bammer survive explosions through sheer obliviousness.“Chief Repair Tester,” Tarz announced, “we need to inspect your safety chamber.”Bammer looked up from his cardboard box — his throne, his fortress, his entire worldview. “Safety chamber?”Tarz nodded. “Yes. The chamber you use to test repairs before we approve them.”The crew exchanged uneasy glances.
Crew Cat #2 whispered, “He has a chamber?”
Crew Cat #3 whispered back, “I thought he just… pressed things.”Tarz cleared his throat. “Lead us to it, Chief Tester.”Bammer stood, dragging the box behind him with the solemnity of a king presenting his crown. He padded across the reactor bay, past the coolant pipes and the humming containment ring, until he reached a small alcove near the emergency shutoff valve. He stopped. Turned. Sat.Tarz stared.
The crew stared.
The reactor hummed nervously.Bammer placed one paw on the cardboard box. “Safety chamber.”Tarz blinked slowly. “That’s… your box.”Bammer nodded proudly. “Yes.”Crew Cat #1’s tail puffed in horror. “He’s been testing repairs in that?”
Crew Cat #4 whispered, “It doesn’t even have walls.”
Crew Cat #5 added, “It barely has sides.”Tarz approached the box like it was a live explosive. “Bammer… this is not a chamber. This is a cardboard box.”Bammer tilted his head. “Is chamber.”Tarz inhaled sharply. “Explain how this is a safety chamber.”Bammer tapped the box with his paw. “I sit in box. If box not explode, repair good.”The crew collectively froze.Tarz pressed a paw to his forehead. “Your safety protocol… is whether you explode?”Bammer nodded again, pleased with himself. “Yes.”The reactor flickered in the background, as if reacting to the sheer audacity of the statement.Crew Cat #2 whispered, “He’s been using himself as the blast gauge.”
Crew Cat #3 whispered, “He’s the canary in the reactor.”
Crew Cat #4 whispered, “He’s the reason we haven’t died.”Tarz turned slowly to the crew. “No one approves this.”The crew nodded vigorously.Tarz turned back to Bammer. “We are building you a real safety chamber. One with shielding. Reinforcement. Structural integrity.”Bammer looked offended. “Box good.”Tarz’s voice dropped to a low, exhausted rumble. “Box is not good.”Bammer placed both paws on the box, hugging it protectively. “Box safe.”Tarz gestured at the box’s sagging corner. “It is literally collapsing.”Bammer stared at him with the unwavering confidence of someone who had survived far too many explosions to fear cardboard. “Box strong.”Tarz exhaled. “We’re building you a chamber. That’s final.”The crew cats nodded, relieved.Bammer blinked slowly. “I test chamber?”Tarz hesitated. “Yes. But not with your body.”Bammer’s eyes widened. “I push button?”Tarz closed his eyes. “Eventually.”The reactor hummed again — steady, ominous, and faintly amused.

And somewhere deep in the Dramática’s ventilation system, a loose bolt rattled, as if the ship itself was bracing for whatever Chapter 3 would bring.
