The Legend of the Floof Kittens

The Legend of the Floof Kittens

Long ago, before cats understood where kittens came from, there lived an old queen cat named Grandma Floof. She was so fluffy that every spring her fur drifted through the house like snow.

One year she shed so much fur that the corners filled with little tumbleweeds of fluff. Under couches, behind chairs, beneath beds—everywhere there were dust bunnies made of cat fur.

Grandma Floof worried.

"What will become of all this fur?" she asked.

An old house spirit appeared from behind the refrigerator and replied:

"Nothing belonging to a cat is ever truly wasted."

That night, while the moonlight shone through the window, the piles of fur began to wiggle.

The smallest pile grew tiny ears.

Another grew a tail.

A third let out a squeaky little "mew."

By morning, the house was filled with kittens.

Grandma Floof counted them all.

One.

Two.

Five.

Nine.

Seventeen.

Twenty-three.

Then she stopped counting because the kittens wouldn't stand still.

The old house spirit laughed.

"Every cat leaves a little floof behind. If enough floof gathers together and the moon is feeling generous, it remembers how to be a cat again."

From that day on, cats believed that every shed hair carried a tiny spark of catness. Most fur simply became dust bunnies.

But every now and then...

A particularly fluffy pile would gather beneath a couch.

The moonlight would find it.

The spark would wake.

And another kitten would appear.

That is why, according to the legend, cats never worry about shedding.

In fact, they shed on purpose.

They're planting kittens.

And whenever a human complains about fur on the furniture, cats secretly smile and think:

"Just wait. Give it a few weeks."

The legend also explains why no matter how many cats live in a house, there always seems to be room for one more.

Somewhere under a bed, behind a dresser, or beneath the couch...

a floof kitten may already be growing. 🐾
